When is the 2026 Victorian state election?

Saturday 28 November 2026. Early voting centres usually open about two weeks before election day. Check the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) for exact dates and locations.

Is voting compulsory in Victoria?

Yes. If you are an Australian citizen aged 18 or over and live in Victoria, you must enrol and vote. You can check your enrolment on the Australian Electoral Commission website.

How do I fill in my ballot papers?

You get two ballot papers. For the Legislative Assembly (lower house), number every box in order of preference. For the Legislative Council (upper house), either write 1 in one box above the line, or number at least 5 boxes below the line.

How does Vic Vote Match work?

You answer 15 multiple-choice questions on state issues. Each answer is compared with the public positions of each party. Parties whose positions are closest to yours get a higher match. Issues you mark as important count double.
